Filmmaking has been a recurring theme of Shaidy Character’s projects starting with HYPE, which was funded by Award for All and allowed us to buy basic filmmaking equipment. Since then we have used film as a recording and evaluation tool for many projects, including a number of consultations with young people which can then be shown to service providers. We are now regularly approached to help make short films in partnership with local community and youth groups

Through Shaidy Character’s involvement in the SmartJustice for Young People campaign in 2006, the group worked with local filmmaker Emily Barber (Striding Edge Films) to produce a short film, “What Happens” exploring different perceptions of young people.  Since then the relationship has developed and we have teamed up again a number of times, most recently on LADS. In 2007 Emily Barber featured Shaidy Characters for a Channel 4 short documentary, which won a Royal Television Society Award.
